Biographical
Mr. Smith has been very active as an arbitrator/mediator since 1992. He has mediated or arbitrated over 3,000 cases and has participated in many mediations and arbitrations as an attorney for one of the parties.
He is a strong advocate for mediation, and is frequently called upon as a speaker on the subject, moderating ADR conferences, and participating as a speaker and panelist in the "Ultimate Mediation Skills Course" in San Antonio amongst other courses.
He has participated in the annual Masters' Forum at the Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University. He has been named a "Super Lawyer" by Texas Monthly Magazine every year since 2003, and has been listed as one of San Antonio's best lawyers in Scene in SA Monthly. In 2010, he was named as San Antonio's outstanding mediator by the San Antonio Business Journal. Mr. Smith is the 2020 recipient of the San Antonio Bar Association's Outstanding Lawyer Award, the Joe Frazier Brown, Sr. Award of Excellence.
Mr. Smith has also served as an arbitrator in many complex commercial cases.

Mr. Smith was certified as a mediator/arbitrator in 1992, is a past member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Attorney-Mediators, the immediate past President of the San Antonio Chapter of the Association of Attorney-Mediators, and a member of the Texas Association of Mediators and The Texas Academy of Distinguished Neutrals. He is also immediate past Chairman of the ADR Section of the San Antonio Bar Association.
Rates Information
My customary fee for a full day's mediation is $2,500.00, $1,500.00 for a one-half day mediation, with an additional charge for multiple parties. I charge hourly ($400.00 per hour) for an arbitration. The amounts quoted are split between the parties.
